About This Webinar
Covert syllabus -- or hidden curriculum -- is a term used by Hadfield, J. to describe the values, behaviors, beliefs, and perspectives that are subtly expressed in classroom activities in course books. The aim of this talk is to discuss the concept of covert syllabus, identify what lies behind some common classroom activities, and how teachers can adapt these activities in order to bring deeper discussions about society, civil rights and social values to the language classroom.

Teacher and teacher trainer
Ilá has been an English teacher for over 15 years, and she currently works as a teacher and a teacher trainer based in São Paulo, Brazil. As part of her professional development, she has obtained Cambridge certificates for language and methodology, and has been regularly attending and presenting in local, national and international conferences.
Ilá is currently a member of the BRAZ-TESOL advisory board and she is the president of Voices SIG, a group that works for women and other under-represented groups from all areas of ELT.
