Effective communication with the media is critical for the fire service to carry out the mission of saving lives and property. There are a variety of communications platforms that must be managed by the public information officer (PIO). Ensuring that accurate information is conveyed to the public regarding incidents and issues of a controversial and/or sensitive nature is very important and must be timely. Print, broadcast, online and social media are powerful ways to connect with the public.
