Join us at the Champion Men Collaborative as we have a conversation with Russel Delmar, an engineer, project manager and vice president at a global engineering and professional services company, about the importance of world view.
His life journey has challenged his own world view which has dramatically changed as his understanding of the gospel, the good news, of God’s kingdom has deepened. He has discovered that his external ability to effectively lead has, in large, come from an internal change that has taken place as he sought to closely follow Jesus in the business world.
Russel has worked in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Canada and the USA and had the privilege of being a member of project management leadership teams on a number of successful infrastructure mega-projects such as the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, the Niagara Tunnel Project and Calgary’s West LRT and current Green Line projects. From this experience, Russel brings insights into how over time he has learned to incorporate a holistic biblical worldview into his understanding of leadership and the day-to-day real-world dynamics of project team culture, diversity and management and why these are necessary for the long-term sustainable success of any team.
- What is a worldview and how does it shape beliefs and values and ultimately culture?
- A personal journey from dualism to holism and how this has changed my thinking on:
o People – their value and worth
o Work – dignity, purpose, contribution, and creativity
o Leadership – leading self before leading family before leading teams
o Teamship – working together: diversity and trust.
o Settled in my own identity as son and daughter.
o Implementation – from philosopher to practitioner
o Management – planning, structure, organization, process, systems, and outcomes
- Some insights about my recent intentional “time out” to take stock, to reflect and to pray as I came to a fresh realization of the value of my time and, as a limited resource, the need to spend it wisely.
