This series of talks will outline the importance of mining in the Australian economy, describe the future trends of the industry, and summarise key research in metallurgy.

Rob Coleman
Chief Executive Officer, Core Resources
Dr. Rob Coleman has over 25 years’ experience across varied roles including General Management, Sales and Business Development, Technology Design and Commercialisation and Research Project Management. Rob is an Adjunct Associate Professor with the University of Queensland and is currently the CEO of Core Resources, an integrated metallurgical laboratory and process engineering group based in Brisbane.
Core is well known for developing innovative technologies to solve complex problems in the mining industry and has won multiple awards including the Queensland and Australian export award.
Kirsty Benham
Co-Founder of the Critical Minerals Association (CMA)
Kirsty is Co-Founder of the Critical Minerals Association (CMA), which unites industry, academia and the UK government to address risks in critical mineral supply chains. The CMA enables industry to generate a collective voice when outlining concerns and future recommendations, providing a direct line of communication between industry and UK government. We aim to improve societal perceptions of the sector by showcasing the economic and social benefits of critical minerals, and ensuring our critical minerals extraction and processing adhere to internationally recognised standards and best practice.
Prior to forming the Critical Minerals Association, Kirsty worked as a consultant to The McCain Institute and The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She holds a BA International Relations from King’s College London.
Professor Voker Hessel
Deputy Dean & Professor in Academic Performance - University of Adelaide
Prof. Dr. Volker Hessel studied chemistry at Mainz University; PhD in organic chemistry, 1993). In 1994 he entered the Institut für Mikrotechnik Mainz, Germany (IMM). In 2002, Prof. Hessel was appointed Vice Director R&D at IMM and in 2007 as Director R&D. In 2005 and 2011, Prof. Hessel was appointed as Part-time and Full Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology, respectively. He was Honorary Professor at TU Darmstadt, Germany 2009-2018, and is Guest Professor at Kunming University of Science and Technology, China (2011-), and part-time professor at the University of Warwick/UK (2019-). In 2018, Prof. Hessel was appointed as Deputy Dean (Research) and Full Professor at the School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials in the ECMS Faculty at the University of Adelaide, Australia. He is the Research Director of Adelaide’s Centre of Sustainable Planetary and Space Resources.
Dr Chris Greet
Manager Metallurgy - Minerals Processing Research at Magotteaux and Adjunct Associate Research Professor, University of South Australia
Chris graduated from the South Australian Institute of Technology with a Metallurgical Engineering degree in 1990, and was awarded his PhD from the Ian Wark Research Institute of the University of South Australia in 2002.
Chris has worked within the mining industry in a variety of roles from shift foreman at the Teutonic Bore copper/zinc operation to Principal Technologist with Pasminco. He is currently employed by Magotteaux as Manager Minerals Processing Research, and leads their technical efforts investigating the effect of grinding chemistry on downstream processes.
