How Eurocontrol’s New Task Force is Fighting the Rise in Cyber Attacks on Aviation
About
The European Air Traffic Management Computer Emergency Response Team (EATM-CERT) reported a 530 percent increase in the number of cyber-attacks against aviation industry targets that were reported to or identified by the team between 2019 and 2020. Established in 2020 by Eurocontrol, EATM-CERT researches and analyzes data about criminals, hackers and state-sponsored groups attempting cyber-attacks on the aviation industry. In their 2021 report, the EATM CERT team shows an increase in the number of ransomware attacks, use of fraudulent websites and data theft as some of the most common attacks that are occurring. In this interactive session, Patrick Mana, who leads Eurocontrol’s management of the EATM-CERT initiative, will provide a wholistic understanding of the aviation cybersecurity threat landscape, an update on what EATM-CERT observed in 2021 and what the team is doing to support the cyber-resilience of the industry.
