About
Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is now confirmed to be starting in April 2026 for sole traders and landlords with total gross qualifying income over £50,000, with the threshold reducing to £30,000 in April 2027. That means you have only just over a year to get your practice and, more importantly, your clients ready.

It will be a huge communication and logistics challenge to update your client engagements and processes, so you need to start your communication to clients now if you haven’t already. You should also be ensuring that your tech stack is ready for the changes and that you have a range of clients on the public beta from April 2025. But whilst it may bring additional work for accountants and bookkeepers to deliver quarterly updates, it will also offer opportunities for more contact and better relationships with clients.

In our on demand webinar, AccountingWEB’s Jake Smith is joined by Jonathan Athow, Director General, Customer Strategy and Tax Design at HM Revenue & Customs, and Chris Downing from Sage, as they look ahead to how accountants and bookkeepers can get their practices and clients ready before the 2026 mandation deadline.

This on demand webinar covers:

- The first steps you need to start today — from rescoping clients, to finding which clients can be moved across sooner (and which later)
- A rundown of MTD for Income Tax requirements, such as key dates and milestones — including the very latest updates from Jonathan Athow from HMRC, who joins as a panelist
- What will your MTD for income tax tech stack look like?
- How can you use MTD for income tax as a catalyst to improve the services you offer your clients?
- How AI tools could help deliver successful outcomes for your clients
