Once the self assessment deadline of 31 January is passed, many accountants' thoughts traditionally turn to how they will improve their processes next year – but with the plans for the roll out of Making Tax Digital for income tax (MTD IT) in April 2026, there are more things than normal to think about this year.
Whilst numbers on the private Making Tax Digital beta that opened in April 2024 are low, that will change from April 2025 with the MTD for income tax (MTD IT) pilot opening up for many more clients.
In this on demand webinar, AccountingWEB’s Tom Herbert is joined by Stuart Miller, from Xero, Emma Rawson, Director of Public Policy at the ATT, and Sarah Gardener, Partner at Shaw Gibbs, to look ahead to how accountants can get their practices and clients ready before the 2026 mandation deadline and how MTD IT can offer opportunities for deeper client relationships and an opportunity to acquire new clients.
We cover:
- How to get clients onto the public beta and why you need to make sure you have enough clients on it
- What challenges might accountants and bookkeepers face in the transition to MTD quarterly filing and how to minimise disruption juggling the different filing regimes
- How to ensure that even tech averse clients are able to meet the new regulations from April 2026
- How to make the most of the opportunities MTD for IT offers to accountants and bookkeepers
