Hanneke Smits
Global Head of Investment Management, BNY Mellon
Hanneke Smits is Senior Executive Vice President and Global Head of Investment Management and a member of BNY Mellon’s Executive Committee.

With over 30 years of investment experience, Hanneke was previously CEO of Newton Investment Management, a BNY Mellon Investment Management firm, from 2016 to 2020. Prior to Newton, she served on the Executive Committee at private equity firm Adams Street Partners from 2001 to 2014, having been Chief Investment Officer from 2008 to 2014. She joined Adams Street in 1997 to build out its global investment capabilities, and successfully launched its presence in Europe and Asia. Before joining Adams Street, she was an investment manager at Pantheon Ventures, and worked for Philips China Hong Kong Group.

Hanneke is the Global Chair of the 30% Club, a role she assumed in February 2023. Additionally, Hanneke is the Executive Sponsor for PRISM, BNY Mellon’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group and serves as Chair of Impetus, a venture philanthropy organization which backs charities to transform the lives of disadvantaged young people. As part of her role with Impetus, she is Trustee of the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), founded in 2011 by The Sutton Trust in partnership with Impetus. Hanneke was also a Non-Executive Director to the Court of the Bank of England, and a co-founder and first Chair of Level 20, a not-for-profit organization set up in 2015 to inspire women to join and succeed in the private equity industry.

Originally from the Netherlands, Hanneke has a BBA from Nijenrode University and an MBA from the London Business School.

Lisa McGeough
Co-Head of Global Banking Coverage, HSBC
Lisa is Co-Head of Global Banking Coverage, alongside Gerry Keefe, responsible for a multi
billiondollar business delivering tailored financial solutions to Corporate and Institutional clients
worldwide through a comprehensive suite of services including liquidity and cash management,
trade services, lending and structured finance. In addition, Lisa has global responsibility for the
Institutional Client Group (ICG) and regional responsibility for Global Banking Europe. Lisa joined
HSBC in June 2021 from Wells Fargo where she served as Executive Vice President and Head of
International. Over a 15-year career at Wells, Lisa was also Co-Head of Corporate & Investment
Banking, head of both the Financial Institutions and Industrials groups, and the London-based CEO of Wells Fargo Securities International Limited, responsible for leading investment banking and capital markets activities in EMEA.

Lisa has over 30 years of institutional sales and marketing experience, and joined Wells Fargo through the predecessor firm, Wachovia, in 2005. Lisa spent eight years with Morgan Stanley Inc., where she was a director in leveraged finance, and was also the high-yield product manager for generalist sales. She also held roles at Toronto Dominion Securities and Salomon Brothers (now Citigroup).

Lisa has been recognised as one of Financial News’ Top Twenty Most Influential in Investment
Banking.

Lisa earned her B.A. in economics and graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, and participated in executive education programs at Harvard Business School.

Laura Janssens
Head of European Investment Banking, Berenberg
Laura runs the 400 person European investment bank at Berenberg, including research, sales, trading and investment banking. She has been at Berenberg since 2011. Prior to her time at Berenberg, she was a highly ranked telecoms analyst at UBS and Merrill Lynch. She is married, with two teenage children.
