If you are a California employer with 5 or more employees, you are subject to the state's Pregnancy Disability Leave laws. This leave provides women disabled by pregnancy with up to 17 1/3 weeks or protected leave.
Employers need to know and understand the requirements and obligations related to this leave as well as how it interacts with other leaves of absence such as FMLA and CFRA. Failure to implement them correctly can result in serious lawsuits including discrimination, retaliation, and often...wrongful termination.
