This year BVA and Mars Petcare gazed into a crystal ball to find out how new technologies, big data, and innovative approaches could shape the future of veterinary consults. Then COVID-19 came along and disrupted everything. In this session at 7:00 PM (GMT) on 11th November, we bring together leading experts to debate how far technology and innovation will change the way we currently work, what appetite clients will have for change, and how ready veterinary professionals are for the future. This interactive session aims to find out what the opportunities and barriers are to innovations from personalised medicine and wearable tech to virtual reality and genomics.

Timokleia Kousi

Dr Timokleia Kousi is a veterinary surgeon graduated with an MSc in small animal surgery from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has more than 5 years of experience in small animal practise in various countries and is currently finishing her 2nd Master in Global Health at the University of Geneva. In 2018 inspired by the potential of technology in healthcare she founded the Vet Futurist initiative with a transdisciplinary team of scientists aiming to inspire the integration of technological advancements in the veterinary field.

A 1987 Dublin graduate, Dan spent two decades in general practice and industry. His PhD in 2014 developed the VetCompass Vet Big Data welfare research programme. With over 80 VetCompass papers since 2012, his ethos is that ‘without good evidence, we are all just muddling around in the dark’.

Daniella Dos Santos

Daniella obtained a BSc (hons) in Molecular Genetics from Kings College London in 2007, before going to study veterinary medicine at the RVC, qualifying in 2012. Since then she has been in first opinion small animal and exotic animal practice and is currently working towards her CertAVP zoological medicine. She became a member of the BVA Ethics and Welfare Advisory Panel in 2015, and became Chair in 2017. She also became a Trustee of the Animal Welfare Foundation in 2016.
