S. Lale Tokgözoğlu, MD, FACC, FESC is Professor of Cardiology at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. She is currently the immediate Past-President of the European Atherosclerosis Society and Deputy Editor of the European Heart Journal.

She chaired the ‘Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology Working Group of the European Society of Cardiology’ between 2008 and 2010. Prof. Tokgözoğlu has served on the Board of the Turkish Society of Cardiology and was elected to be the first female President of the Society in its history, between 2014-2016. During that time, she worked with the Ministry of Health to develop ‘Heart Health policies’ and strategies. She also chaired the Dyslipidaemia Working Group of the Turkish Society of Cardiology. She has contributed to several Guidelines and Consensus Papers on dyslipidaemia and Preventive Cardiology both in Europe and nationally.

She was a member of the Steering Committee of the EUROASPIRE III-V studies which were the landmark studies defining preventive measures in Europe. She has also served on the Board of the Prevention Association as well as different committees of the European Society of Cardiology including the Fellowship and Training Committee, the Education Committee and currently the Research and Grants Committee. She is a member of the Science Academy and a founding member of the Atherosclerosis Research and Education Society in Turkey. She is founding member of the Department of Noncommunicable diseases in Hacettepe University. She serves on the Scientific and Research Council of Turkey Working Group on women researchers.

I studied medicine at Ege University School of medicine (1988-1995) and completed my cardiology residency in the Ege University in 1999. I am working as a general cardiology consultant and Lipid and Prevention specialist at the Ege University Medical School.
I am running the Lipid out-patient Clinic since 1996, Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic since 2008, and the Young MI Clinic since 2005.
I am working as a National CVD Prevention Coordinator of Turkey for EAPC since 2009. I am the deputy ambassador of MENA and India Regions of ESC for 2018-2020. I am also a member of ESC-EORP Oversight Committee and ESC Global Affairs Committee. I am also a social media ambassador of EAS.

I am working as the Associate Editor of Archives of the Turkish Society of Cardiology since 2016.
My research field includes atherosclerosis, prevention, lipids, familial hypercholesterolemia, premature myocardial infarction, hereditary thrombophillia, cardiovascular involvement in rare disease and pulmonary hypertension.
For research activity, I am chairing a large series of national registries including familial hypercholesterolemia registries (A-HIT 1 and A-HIT 2), a registry of premature myocardial infarction in Turkey (A-HIT 3), ARTEMIS (registry of peri-partum CMP), and TURK-MI (a 15-day snapshot registry of AMI).

I presented TSC in the Red Alert on Women’s Heart Project (EuroHeart Project, Work Package 6) (2007- 2009) and worked as principal and co-investigator in many CV prevention projects including Euroaspire III, IV, and V. I am also the national coordinator of FHSC (Familial Hypercholesterolemia Studies Collaboration) in EAS. I am highly experienced in patient education programs on CVD prevention and actively working in several CV prevention projects in collaboration with Turkish Ministry of health.
For advocacy, I am also chairing the FH-Turkey and working actively for FH-Europe.

Dr. Nevrez Koylan was born 1957, in Iskenderun, Turkey. He started his medical career by
graduating from Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1981, and acquired the “Specialist on
Internal Medicine”degree in 1986. After his military and compulsatory governmental
services, he joined Department of Cardiology of Istanbul Medical Faculty and acquired the
“Assistant Professor” degree in 1990. In 1996, he acquired “Professor” and “Specialist in
Cardiology” degrees.

During his work, he acted as the head of “Dynamic EKG Laboratory
between 1993 and 2006 and member of “Research Ethics Committee” between 200 and
2003. Currently, he is the secretary of Turkish Atherosclerosis Society. He is also president of Bioequivalency Bioavailability Ethics Committee of Istanbul University. Dr. Koylan is a member of Turkish Society of Cardiology since 1984.

He was also accepted as the Fellow of European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and American College of Cardiology (FACC). He is also members of European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS). He was also awarded to be “European Hypertension Specialist”. He has contributed to 4 English textbools as section author and has 31 articles published in international peer reviewed journalsas well as many abstracts in international medical meetings.

Izmir Medical Faculty. I am also the president of Preventive Cardiology and Atherosclerosis working group of Turkish Society of Cardiology.

Dr. Özcan Başaran is an Associate Professor of Cardiology in the Cardiology Department of Mugla Sitki Kocman University, Faculty of Medicine. He is also working in Mugla Education and Research Hospital as a clinical cardiologist.

He has published 86 publications in peer reviewed journals. His research focused on prevention of cardiovascular disease, atrial fibrillation and anticoagulant treatment, atherosclerosis and risk factors. He has served as a reviewer in peer review journals, Anatolian Journal of Cardiology, Archieves of Turkish Society of Cardiology, Current Medical Research and Opinion, Medicine.

He completed medical school at Istanbul University, Faculty of Medicine in 2006 and Cardiology Residency program in Kartal Kosuyolu Education and Research Hospital in 2012. Then he became associate professor of cardiology in 2017.

He has served as a board member of the Lipid Working Group of the Turkish Society of Cardiology between 2018 and 2021, and currently working as a board member of the Preventive Cardiology and Atherosclerosis Working Group of the Turkish Society of Cardiology. He has been appointed as the European Association of Preventive Cardiology Young Ambassador of Turkey in 2019.

Born in Istanbul. Graduated from Istanbul College 1980, Istanbul Medical Faculty 1986, finished specialization in Pharmacology in 1990. Worked in Istanbul Medical Faculty Dept. of Cardiology 1987-88, Human Pharmacolgy Sandoz Basel 1991-1993. Became associate professor at 1997, professor at 2004, head of the department at 2006, head of the division of Clinical Pharmacology at 2014.

Performed clinical trials on phase I to IV, has documents in FDA, was the principal investigator of international multicenter hypertension study, was Erasmus coordinator of the Istanbul Medical Faculty.
Is vice Director of the IU Clinical Research Center of Excellence, and IU Drug Research Center, chairperson of the Ethics Committee of Istanbul Medical Faculty, Board Member of the Istanbul University Biotechnology and Genetical Engineering Center, Member of the State Representatives Group of Innovational Medicines Initiative of EU, was ethics consultant of the IMI SAFE-T project, is Member of the Steering Board and former Chairperson of the International Clinical Trial Center Network, Chairperson of Turkish Atherosclerosis Society, Hypertension Specialist of the European Society of Hypertension. Murat Akova is the Professor of Medicine at Hacettepe University School of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey. He obtained his MD degree from Istanbul University in 1982, and completed his residency training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Hacettepe University School of Medicine.

Dr. Akova obtained a DSc degree in Clinical Microbiology from London Hospital Medical College, London, UK in 1989. From 1992 to 1993 he worked as a visiting scientist at the Center for Adaptive Resistance and Microbiology at Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston, MA, USA. Professor Akova served as the Vice Dean of the Medical School at the Hacettepe University between 2000 and 2006. During this time Professor Akova was also a faculty member in the Department of Medical Education and Medical Informatics.

He has served in the executive committee of the several inernational societies including EORTC-IDG, ESCMID (president 2014-2016, currently ESCMID Member Counsellor-EmeC) and ICHS (president-elect 2022-2024).

Dr. Akova is a member of Science Academy, Turkey. He is also the recipient of “Science Award-2020” from Hacettepe University. Professor Akova’s scientific research interests include infections in immunocompromised host, antimicrobial resistance, good clinical practice in clinical trials.
