About
Snow and ice are major considerations for many solar installers in Europe. Some of the continent’s colder regions have been making significant solar capacity gains – and facing unique challenges in the process. In the Baltics, Lithuania recently entered the 1 GW club for solar, while Estonia ranks highly in capacity additions per head of population. Welcome progress, but installations in cold climates bring their own problems.

Photovoltaic modules can withstand a certain amount of bending, as manufacturers have shown through quality testing, but how can installers know when snow and ice piles up dangerously on modules?

Our guests in this webinar, Nadine Wade and Ciaran Murphy from roof-mounting specialist K2s technical sales team, will present a system that boasts real-time measurement of module loads and a digital warning system for rooftop installations. The K2 Buddy allows monitoring of snow and ice loads via app and warns the operator or installer when these exceed threshold values. It also enables cost savings during installation, says Nadine Wade. For example, large modules could be clamped on the short side instead of the long side, reducing material costs.

In this webinar we will also discuss how the K2 Buddy system is incorporated into the design of a roof system using K2 Base planning software.
