This training is intended to provide an introduction or refresher to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). We will strive to convey the importance of the Section 106 process and to assist those who may be involved in the process in Oklahoma. Topics addressed in this presentation include the basic requirements of Section 106, the regulations which govern the process, the process for determining National Register eligibility, what constitutes an adverse effect, mitigating adverse effects, and streamlining Section 106 review. We will discuss program alternatives, including the 2024 ACHP Program Comment for Federal Communications Projects. This presentation will also include guidance specific to submitting projects for OKSHPO review.
