About Carolyn (M.Ed.)
The founder of and active educator with Blue Heron STEM Education, Carolyn has been sharing dynamic science and STEM education with school-aged children and their teachers for nearly 30 years. Although she began her career based in science museum settings, she has always made classroom support a priority in her work. She has led successful museum-school partnerships and developed widely used curriculum and educational resources for the Museum of Science, Boston; NOVA Teacher Guides; NASA through her work at TERC; and the Mobile County Public School System through her work with the Mobile Area Education Foundation. As part of her efforts to support teachers, she has a long history of providing exciting teacher professional development programs. As Professional Development Director for the award-winning Engineering is Elementary program, she initiated the Teacher Educator Institutes, which continue to draw many from across the country and internationally. She is also a nonfiction science author whose books (A Black Hole is NOT a Hole; Big Bang! The Tongue-Tickling Tale of a Speck that Became Spectacular, and more). have received high acclaim. She brings an infectious appreciation of childhood, wonder, fun, and the importance of integrating fields of study to her work with others. In her work with Blue Heron, she provides STEM teacher development through i2, schools and districts, and also offers pre-K-8 author visits for classrooms and informal education organizations.
