About
Join the Polite & Canvas Therapeutics education team as we learn from author, community educator and social entrepreneur, Tarris Batiste.

“Smoke it—but don’t let it smoke you.”

This is the lesson that Tarris wants to impart on others, after reflecting on the evolution of his relationship with cannabis—from an impressionable youth, collegiate athlete, graduate student, to life after being drafted into the NFL and discovering his passion for driving positive change in the community.

In 2021, he wrote and published, "Don’t Let It Smoke You: How to Create a Nontoxic Relationship with Cannabis", in hopes of giving others the tools and motivation to gain awareness and take control of their cannabis consumption, particularly those who find themselves reaching for it purely out of boredom or habit, and missing out on opportunities to show up and be their best self.

We'll be discussing Tarris' personal journey, from feeling dependent to empowered by the plant, and his vision for how to help others find balance and benefit as legal access grows.

Fun fact: In addition to his work around intentional cannabis use, Tarris also founded Brass Knockers - a company that specializes in promoting firearm safety and responsibility.

Tarris Batiste
Author, Educator, Entrepreneur & Former Pro-Athlete
Tarris Batiste had a complicated relationship with weed starting in middle school. As a child, he developed a smoking habit and saw firsthand how damaging it is to a lack of self-control. As he finished his MBA he helped start a nonprofit called "Circle of Advancement", which gives students in Northern Georgia guidance of life after high school and college.

Today Tarris works with young adults in gaining control of their dependency. This inspired him to write, "Don't Let It Smoke You." He continues to guide and support others in creating a healthy, balanced relationship with cannabis.
