In this session participants will begin to understand the difference between sex, gender, and sexual orientation as a foundation in working towards trans inclusion in professional and personal settings. Participants will learn from lessons on campus to think through solutions in their respective workplace. The session will conclude with opportunities learn about and practice pronoun use as one of many strategies to promote organizational culture shift.

Matt Abtahi
Assistant Director, Multicultural Student Affairs at Northwestern University
Matt Abtahi is an Assistant Director with Multicultural Student Affairs at Northwestern. Matt’s role support students of all identities that experience marginalization across race, ethnicity, gender, orientation, and assigned sex at Northwestern with a focus on community building and advocacy for and with LGBTQIA+ student populations. Matt has served in roles ranging from DEI, crisis response and residential services at DePauw University, Purdue University, and the University of Colorado Boulder prior to their time at Northwestern. Matt also provides consultations, trainings and 1-on-1 equity and justice coaching outside of his role at NU. In his free time Matt finds himself involved in local government committees, biking and gardening!
