The culture of the cross in a cross cultural world

About This Webinar

When it comes to understanding culture, we can often be a little too close to see what’s really going on. In this session, Malcolm will be exploring how counter-cultural the Kingdom looks when placed alongside a context far removed from British culture to gain some insights into the radical nature of the Jesus way. He will draw from his experience planting churches in rural contexts among Thai Buddhists. Lessons learned from contextualising the Gospel in that context are both timely and relevant for the UK church in 2021.
The session will explore the Kingdom from a cross-cultural perspective, exploring a number of critical questions including the following: What does it mean to be Kingdom ambassadors? What does the Gospel look like in Honour terms and why is that important? Why is ‘Kingdom response’ so counter-culturally powerful?

In 2018, Malcolm and his family moved from Thailand to Coventry with a passion for equipping the UK church to engage cross-culturally and inspiring a new generation to be authentic Kingdom ambassadors. He is the UK director of Worldwide Evangelisation for Christ (WEC), an international church-planting organisation with members engaging the peoples of the world who have the least accessibility to the Gospel. It’s all about crossing cultures to see God’s Kingdom established among every tribe, language and nation.

Malcolm’s parents were missionaries in Laos. He was born in Thailand and grew up in the Philippines. In 2001, he and his Swedish wife joined WEC and headed for Thailand, involved in evangelism and church-planting among the rural Buddhist communities in Central Thailand. He later served as the WEC Thailand director for 9 years, which included serving on the national board of the Evangelical Fellowship of Thailand.
