Marinella Galea, MD , is an Assistant Professor of PM&R at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College. Dr Galea serves as the Chief of Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder at the James J Peters VAMC in NY.
Dr Galea is a graduate of the University of Milan Medical School, Italy. She completed a post-doctoral program at New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center in endocrinology and applied physiology and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. She trained in Spinal Cord Injury at the James J Peters VAMC and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Spinal Cord Injury Medicine.
Dr Galea is a principal investigator of several spinal cord injuries research studies including biomarkers for pressure ulcers, the use of artificial intelligence to monitor disease course, and most recently, site principal investigator on the use of Nitazoxanide for post-exposure prophylaxis of COVID-19.
She has published in several peer reviewed journals on gastrointestinal, endocrine and cardiovascular consequences of SCI and the use of telemedicine in rehabilitation.
