Navigating Competency-Based Education: Insights and Strategies

Hollie is an NLN Certified Nurse Educator and a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She brings a diverse nursing background and has teaching experience in lab, clinical, simulation, as well as didactic teaching experience both in person and online and she has taught at all levels (LPN, ADN, BSN, and Graduate). Hollie has studied and implemented the Team-Based Learning approach and is an advocate for bringing clinical to the classroom to improve critical thinking and clinical judgement. She has expertise in curriculum design as well as program evaluation and accreditation. In her role of Nursing Education and Implementation Manger, Hollie is proud to be a small cog in the wheel that is driving nursing into the future!

Dr. Delaney LaRosa is the Associate Dean of Academic and Inclusive Excellence at Northern Arizona University's College of Nursing. With a background in higher education strategic planning and program development, Delaney has developed nursing and public health programs for organizations such as Nurses International, Chamberlain University, and Alliant International University. Dr. LaRosa is an active member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), the National League for Nurses (NLN), and the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Their work has earned a number of accolades, including the AACN Apple Digital Innovation Award and the Dr. Ellen Poole Education Award.

Dr. Sharon Mingo is the BSN Prelicensure Strategies for Success Program Director at LaSalle University. Her dedication to her students is unwavering and she works tirelessly with faculty and prelicensure undergraduate students to increase student retention from enrollment to graduation. Dr. Mingo is the author of peer-reviewed articles providing understanding and support to nursing students preparing for the NCLEX-RN and supporting students experiencing academic failure. In addition, she serves as a Live Review Educator and HESI Compass Coach in the Elsevier Academy of Educators.

Jenifer Rosetti is an accomplished nurse educator and an Elsevier Certified Expert. She is currently working on designing and developing innovative courses at Northern Arizona University to prepare the next generation of nurses with cutting-edge, evidence-based education. She strongly advocated fostering collaboration across healthcare disciplines to improve patient outcomes. With a career marked by leadership roles in education and clinical practice, Jennifer brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for innovation to her presentations.

Alyson Hunteman is a dedicated and experienced instructional designer, curriculum developer, and educator with a rich background in secondary and postsecondary education. Currently serving as the Lead Instructional Designer for the College of Nursing at Northern Arizona University, Alyson designs and develops high-quality, academically rigorous courses using evidence-based teaching methodologies. She collaborates with faculty and subject matter experts to enhance learning experiences, focusing on the needs of both students and educators.

Dr. Julie Kelly is a nursing education specialist at Elsevier. Julie has been a nurse for 30 years and has experience teaching pre and post licensure nursing courses. She has also served as a nursing program director and has great perspective for programs working on accreditation review. Julie is passionate about data and analytics to drive improvement at the course and program level and serves as a thought leader in these areas and more. Dr. Kelly is passionate about nursing education and enjoys supporting faculty as they prepare practice-ready nurses.
