In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), covered employers must provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities upon recognizing the need for accommodation, and when not an undue hardship. This Job Accommodation Network (JAN) training provides insights into disability disclosure and effective methods for requesting and negotiating accommodations. Attendees will be introduced to the JAN service, receive an overview of the ADA and the accommodation process, and gain practical tips and JAN resources to enhance their ability to request and negotiate job accommodations.

BIO: Tracie DeFreitas, Program Leader, Director of Training and Outreach, Job Accommodation Network (JAN)

Tracie DeFreitas serves as a Program Leader and the Director of Training and Outreach for the Job Accommodation Network (JAN), the foremost national resource for expert guidance on workplace accommodations. Tracie has over 28 years of experience providing practical guidance and expert consultation on a broad range of workplace accommodation and compliance issues under Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). She specializes in navigating complex ADA issues, providing practical strategies that extend beyond ADA compliance, and offering valuable insights into effective engagement in the accommodation process. Tracie is also an experienced national speaker. In her role as Director, Tracie oversees the planning, design, and execution of JAN's training and outreach initiatives. As a Program Leader, she collaboratively manages the daily operations of JAN, ensuring that customer needs and organizational goals are met.
