Over the past few years, diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) have gained plenty of traction and exposure. Organizations are realizing that these efforts breed adaptability and resilience, and result in a better understanding of client and end-user needs.

As a result, DE&I is finally breaking away from its traditional place on the HR agenda, and instead growing into a more ubiquitous and noteworthy business and leadership matter that – when addressed properly – can give a company a very real competitive edge.

In the first installment of The Inclusive Edge, we’ll hear three first-hand stories about the value of diversity in tech leadership from our three panelists:

Jarazet Altamirano

Global Technical SEO Manager and Co-founder of the EMEA Innovation Initiative, Texas Instruments

Jarazet leads the Global Technical SEO for Texas Instruments. In her role, she works web development and agile teams across different functions in EMEA, US and Asia. She is also one of the founding members of the Innovation initiative in EMEA, which allows her to collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams from 62 different nationalities. Working with multicultural and functionally diverse teams, and driving the democratization of innovation through the entire company to create an inclusive and forward looking environment is key part of her daily work.

Rashmi Kasat

VP, Head of Digital Technologies, Metso Outotec

Rashmi has an Electronics Engineering degree from Mumbai, India and
an Executive MBA from Hanken Executive Education, Helsinki. She has worked in global B2B sales, operations, product development & digital leadership roles in IT services, industrial & several other sectors for more than 20 years.

Rashmi leads Digital technologies for Metso Outotec’s minerals equipment business in Helsinki. In her role, she leads a team in 2 continents and works in matrix across the globe with 6 business lines, 8 market areas and 15+ product groups. Working across culturally, geographically and functionally diverse teams, and making inclusive decisions is a natural part of her daily work life.

Sonja Lakner

Managing Director, Futurice Sweden

Sonja is the MD of Futurice Sweden with a M.Phil in media and communication from the University of Vienna. She has 13 years of experience as a business leader. She is a strong strategic thinker with a broad perspective on how to work with diverse teams and how to make everyone feel included.
Growing up in picturesque Austria she had interest in other cultures and languages already at early age. When she was eight her family went on vacation to Italy, where she co-wrote her first Italian/German dictionary together with an Italian friend. Even though they did not share a language, they learned to cooperate and work together simply by pointing at things around them. Inspired by this, from then on she wanted to grasp every opportunity to go abroad for more language courses, internships and studies.

Throughout her career Sonja has worked for some of the world’s most innovative companies. She knows that being innovative is about being bold, not being afraid to ask uncomfortable questions, and about getting as many different views as possible to the table.
