Smart factories are now a real possibility. Many innovations have been realized over the years, but perhaps none as interesting and valuable as Industry 4.0. The ability to achieve complete connectivity—along with the need to stay in touch—has driven innovation to a point that now allows nearly all equipment to speak to each other. This allows equipment suppliers to help molders:

  • Reduce downtime during troubleshooting

  • Increase productivity

  • Increase part quality

  • Monitor machines remotely and tune machine parameters (service values) to keep equipment running until service arrives with parts

In this presentation, Wittmann will review the integration of all injection molding components using 4.0 connectivity. This includes a complete automation system along with all the peripherals—and the connection of these cells to a manufacturing execution system (MES).

Robert Jergens
Regional Sales Manager - Injection Molding Machines
Robert Jergens has been in the plastics industry for over 30 years, starting in his family's tool and die shop. After college, Robert grew the company's injection molding division from five small machines into a 26-machine operation by introducing many technologies such as robots, automation, material handling and plant-wide control systems. Upon the closing of the family business, he went into capital sales and is able to offer a unique perspective with his previous experience in purchasing capital equipment. Robert worked as a sales representative for Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky and took on sales roles at Negri Bossi and then Arburg. In 2019, he joined Wittmann. Robert is also a past president of the Miami Valley section of SPE.
