In the 1970s, the programmable logic controller (PLC) was introduced as a solution for replacing complex relay control cabinets for manufacturing. Over the past 40 years, the PLC has advanced and is considered the most reliable standard for control in almost every industry. Aside from this, many plastic extrusion lines still operate with designs that are over 50 years old and pose great risk. This session will discuss the problems this presents to an organization and the accepted risk in operating in the past.
