About This Webinar

Third webinar of a five-part series hosted by the International Testing Agency (ITA).

This session will focus on values, rights and responsibilities. Kady Kanouté Tounkara OLY, Chair of the WADA Education Committee, will speak of personal and sport values, and how these affect decision-making. Olya Abasolo OLY, will cover the Principle of Strict Liability as well as athletes' rights and responsibilities. All athletes' voices and experiences need to be heard in order to generate meaningful conversations about clean sport and the anti-doping system. So this edition is unique – Sharad Kumar and Søren Johansson, two athletes who have been sanctioned for anti-doping rule violations, will also speak about their personal experiences.

Kady is an Olympian who competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games as a co-captain of the Mali women’s basketball team. She was a professional player in Europe and a five-time French National Junior Champion before completing her Marketing and Management degree from Fordham University in New York. Kady is a Master Trainer and Steering Committee member of the International Olympic Committee’s Career+ Program and the International Red Cross Career Development Program for persons with physical disabilities. She has facilitated workshops in over 50 countries and has recently been appointed as Chair of the WADA Education Committee.

Former Danish decathlete
Søren Johansson is a former Danish decathlete. He was the Danish athletics pentathlon champion in 1994 and the decathlon champion in 1989, 1992, 1994, 1995. Søren was the first Danish person to receive a lifetime ban from sport, after failing doping tests for anabolic steroids on two separate occasions (in 1989 and in 1995). This ban ended Søren’s athletic career and he was unable to remain in sport in any capacity. In 2011, Søren filed a request for a permission to coach and was subsequently allowed to work with junior club teams. He currently coaches track and field and football at a club in Copenhagen, Denmark and has also been working as a mentor with several high performance athletes. Most recently, Søren filed a request to the National Sports Confederation requesting permission to be fully involved as a coach, regardless of age and level of athletes. He is currently awaiting the final decision.

Paralympic High Jumper
Sharad Kumar is a para high jumper who represented India at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. He made his international debut in 2010 and qualified for the London 2012 Paralympic Games in January of 2012. By April of 2012, Sharad was the World’s best para high jumper at the age of 19. However, he was unable to compete at the Paralympic Games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Sharad presented a contaminated supplement case at a series of hearings but was unable to provide sufficient proof to avoid the two-year ban. He made a comeback at the 2014 Para Asian Games, where he won gold and regained the world no. 1 spot. Sharad subsequently participated in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games where he finished sixth. He is currently living and training in Ukraine in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Olympian, Education Manager - International Testing Agency
Olya Abasolo Ovtchinnikova is a Canadian Olympian who competed at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in the sport of fencing. Olya holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University in Canada and is in the process of completing a Master's Degree in Olympic Studies. After retiring from sport, Olya worked at the Canadian Olympic Committee on Olympian marketing, legacy and education programs. In 2019, Olya joined the International Testing Agency in a role of the Education Manager.
