Yaiza del Pozo Martín
Editor-in-Chief, The Lancet Primary Care, Spain
Yaiza del Pozo Martín is the founding Editor of The Lancet Primary Care (2025). She joined The Lancet Group as Senior Editor at The Lancet Oncology in 2017 and moved to The Lancet Haematology as Deputy Editor in 2019, acting as Editor-in-Chief for the journal between 2021-22. Yaiza received a PhD in Cancer Biology and Oncology from University College London (UK) and completed a Master's in Neuroscience and Behavioural Biology and a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Universidad Pablo de Olavide (Spain). She previously worked as an Assistant Editor at BMJ Open (The BMJ Group) and the BMC Series (Springer Nature). Yaiza is interested in contributing towards universal healthcare coverage and a more equitable world, and is completing a part-time Master's in Gender Studies at UNED (Spain).
Jessica Smith
Senior Editor, The Lancet Primary Care, UK
Jessica Smith is one of the founding Senior Editors of The Lancet Primary Care (2025). She joined The Lancet Group in 2017 and worked in the Assistant Editor team for about six years. During this time, she was responsible for post-acceptance scientific editing of research articles and opinion pieces across The Lancet Group's journals, and was exposed to a broad array of research topics. Jessica then worked for a year as a Senior Editor for The Lancet Oncology, during which time she developed a keen interest in oncology and the patient experience, including working on the Perspectives section of the journal to commission and publish interest pieces on how oncology and cancer affects and influences people's lives and livelihoods. Jessica has a background in life science, having completed her Master's and PhD in Chemistry at University of Sussex (UK), before working at The Royal Society of Chemistry as a Production Editor.
Lauren Southwell
Senior Editor, The Lancet Primary Care, UK
Lauren Southwell is one of the founding Senior Editors of The Lancet Primary Care (2025). She had both a Bachelor's in Psychology and a Master's in Forensic Mental Health Research from King's College London (UK), as part of which she held a placement working with the mental health team in a UK prison. Lauren joined The Lancet Group as an Assistant Editor in 2022 and became a Senior Assistant Editor after one year, enabling her to focus more keenly on her research topics of interest, particularly global health and public health. She aims to commission and publish primary care research that serves and supports all people, working towards universal healthcare, person-centred care, and equitable treatment for under-represented and minoritised populations.
