Germany are second in Group A4, two points adrift of Spain. Joachim Löw’s side drew their first two games 1-1, surrendering leads at home against Spain and away against Switzerland, and had to withstand another comeback in Ukraine on Saturday in a 2-1 win.

Switzerland are bottom of the section with a point from three games, narrow losses in Ukraine (2-1) and Spain (1-0) either side of the 1-1 draw at home to Germany.
Rested for the midweek friendly draw with Turkey, Neuer returned to action in Germany’s 2-1 Nations League win in Ukraine on Saturday, the Bayern No.1 earning his 93rd senior international cap. Only former Bayern teammate Toni Kroos has collected more of the current squad, and with head coach Joachim Löw quick to rule out wholesale changes following his team’s maiden Nations League triumph, it’s fair to assume the two talismen will take to the field at Cologne’s RhineEnergieStadion. “It’s the first time in ten months we have been able to play with this team,” Löw told media. “If no-one has picked up an injury, I won’t be making many changes.” Left wing-back is one area that could see a switch in personnel: Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schulz started against Turkey, while RB Leipzig’s Marcel Halstenberg got the nod over Atalanta’s Robin Gosens this past weekend. Former Leipzig goal-getter Timo Werner is also pushing for his first start of the October cycle of international fixtures, with fellow forward Julian Draxler a candidate to make way. Dortmund captain Marco Reus and Bayern summer signing Leroy Sane were not included in the 23-man squad.
Spain and Switzerland will resume their Nations League campaigns when they meet in group competition on Saturday.
Entering the match, Spain sits atop the League A, Group 4 standings with four points while Switzerland is last with one point. Switzerland has yet to register a victory during the 2020-21 Nations League competition.
