Alex Compton
Digital Intelligence Head of Security Consulting
Alex Joined Rolls-Royce in 1999 following a 4 year M.Eng in Engineering and a year as student engineer with Cummins Engine Company. In 2000 Alex moved into a role as systems engineer in a technical consultancy (now part of BAE) where he worked in a succession of systems engineering, consulting, and project management roles across the rail, government and defence sector, many of which involving fraud prevention, cyber security, or system assurance. Alex moved laterally into full time cyber security consulting role in 2008, working across transport, government, telecoms, and wider CNI sectors. Alex has led the 180 strong Security Consulting team since 2018.

Gavin Huish
Maritime Services Software Discipline Lead
Gavin started his career in 1985 after completing an HND in Computer Studies. He joined as an embedded software developer on Radars for the SeaWolf System. Following work on all aspects of the software lifecycle within Radar products, including a year’s integration on a joint venture in Italy, he progressed into software management. This ultimately lead to a functional role with responsibility for software capability in an area that covers Radar, Torpedoes, Mine Neutraliser Systems, Autonomous maritime vehicles and Training Systems.

After 39 years Gavin is still enjoying the challenges presented by Engineering in the Defence Sector.

Paul Sparks
Digital Intelligence Head of Strategy & Capability Development, Engineering
Since joining BAE Systems as a Software Engineer in 2002, Paul has had a variety of roles including leading the architecture of major mission-critical systems, engineering management and project delivery for software and software-intensive systems.
Paul has been Head of Software Engineering, lead Systems Technical Authority, Head of Engineering & Engineering Authority at business unit level.
Paul is now responsible for overall Engineering Strategy and Capability across Digital Intelligence, a division created in 2022 to bring together BAE Systems’ software and information capabilities.
A major focus is retaining a competitive edge in deployment of software, cyber and information related technologies.

Michelle Akure
Air Net Zero Technology Lead
Michelle joined the Graduate Scheme after completing her Bachelors and Masters in Chemical and Energy Engineering. Prior to joining the company her industry experience was within a Renewable Tech Start-up, after which she completed a summer placement at BAE Systems Head Office.
Since joining the Air Sector six years ago she has worked in varying teams before moving into her current role within The Chief Technologists Office. In this role she develops technologies, demonstrates their impact and supports with their integration onto Air Sector platforms to: improve efficiencies, lessen raw material use, increase circularity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
