About
E-motors in HEVs and EVs need to meet several key requirements, like compact size and lighter weight, high input voltage (~800V), high efficiency, and resistance against chemicals – all while providing superior reliability. The insulation materials and system in a traction motor should be selected by considering all of these design factors and performance requirements. Especially, as the battery voltages in HEVs and EVs increase for fast charging time, the e-motor voltages also go up and up. Many e-motor OEMs are developing new motors with more than 800V as the DC link voltage. High input voltage makes electrical stress in a motor, which leads to the premature failure of motor insulation system by partial discharge. It becomes a big challenge to design and select the insulation materials and system for the e-motor.

This webinar will focus on the premature failure of e-motor insulation by partial discharge and the evaluation methodology for higher voltage stress.

Attendees will learn:
• Electrical stress in motor insulation from inverter driven system : partial discharge
• Share the premature failure of motor insulation by partial discharge
• Evaluation methodology of insulation materials and system in the motor
