The last thirty years have witnessed a growing interest in the way mental health and drug use interact with each other, research exploring this relationship has also grown. This talk will explore what we can learn from the last three decades and what the future holds for people experiencing these co-occurring issues and those working with them.

Ian is associate professor of addiction at the University of York. His work is focused on the relationship between mental health and substance use, including policy, research and practice. Ian worked as a psychiatric nurse with people who have these combined problems. He writes a regular column for the Independent and engages with other published and broadcast media.
