The next instalment of The SecEd Webinar will focus on Ofsted and the Curriculum, considering current inspection trends and offering practical advice for all those working on curriculum design and delivery in the secondary school.
This webinar will offer practical ideas and techniques for effective curriculum planning through the lens of Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework.
A number of our panellists have recently been inspected and we will find out what Ofsted focused on during these visits when it comes to curriculum intent, implementation and impact, including the kinds of questions they asked and common trends. We will also look at other elements including student interviews and subject deep dives.
Ultimately, we will ask how curriculum leaders and teachers can be ready for when Ofsted comes calling.

MEET OUR EXPERTS
• Matt Bromley, Bromley Education (SecEd’s resident curriculum expert and author of School and College Curriculum Design)
• Paul Ainsworth, Director of School Improvement, Infinity Academies Trust, Lincolnshire (involved in several recent inspections)
• Clare Duffy, Deputy Principal (teaching and learning and CPD), Uppingham Community College, Rutland (last inspected in March)
• Pete Taylor, headteacher, Audenshaw School, Manchester (last inspected in March)

THIS WEBINAR WILL ANSWER KEY QUESTIONS
We are now four years into Ofsted’s curriculum-focused inspection framework. What have we learned in that time about what Ofsted looks for and how they collect their evidence? Our discussion will begin with an overview of some of the key elements of Ofsted curriculum inspection and a look at any common trends emerging from recent inspections. We will cover topics including:
• Intent
• Implementation
• Impact
• Broad and balanced curriculum
• Curriculum sequencing & coverage
• Knowledge-rich curriculum
• Delivering Cultural Capital
• Ensuring preparation for next steps/workplace (destinations)
• Feedback & assessment

Then we will hear about the recent inspections at our panelists’ schools, finding out about what went well, what inspectors looked for, and, of course, any lessons learned or advice for other schools.
We will consider key elements of curriculum inspection, including inspection preparation, the role of middle leaders, the student interviews, the subject deep dives, and the feedback meetings.
