In this webinar,the presenters will show surgical videos that demonstrate laparoscopic and robotic techniques for complex hernia repair, including component separation and closure of the abdominal wall.

The presenters will share their tips and techniques and will discuss the most appropriate strategies for each patient.

Filip Muysoms

General Surgeon & Head of the Department of General and Abdominal Surgery, Maria Middelares Hospital, Ghent, Belgium

Born in Ghent, Belgium in 1965, Dr Muysoms graduated from the Medical School at the University of Ghent in 1990. He trained in general surgery at the Baragwanath Hospital, Johannesburg in South Africa and at the AZ Maria Middelares Hospital in Ghent, 1990-1998.

Dr Muysoms currently works as Head of the Department of General and Abdominal Surgery at the Maria Middelares Hospital in Ghent.

He has developed a specific focus in practice and in science on abdominal wall hernias. He is a board member and Past-President (2008-2010) of the Belgian Section for Abdominal Wall Surgery. He is first author of the "Classification of primary and incisional abdominal wall hernias" of the European Hernia Society, 2009.

Dr Muysoms was Congress President of the 33th International Congress of the European Hernia Society in Ghent, May 2011 as well as Founding President of the EuraHS, the European Registry for abdominal wall hernias in 2011. He has been a European Hernia Society Board Member since 2013 and is currently Secretary of Quality.

Salvador Morales Conde

Chief, Unit of Innovation in Minimally Invasive Surgery, University Hospital "Virgen del Rocío", Spain

Dr Morales Conde is Chief of the Unit of Innovation in Minimally Invasive Surgery of the University Hospital "Virgen del Rocío" and Head of the General, Digestive and Laparoscopic Surgery Unit of the Hospital QuirónSalud Sagrado Corazón in Sevilla in Spain. He is also Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery at the University of Sevilla.

He is Vice-Chairman of the Chapter of Abdominal Wall Surgery of the European School of Medical Specialists (UEMS); Director of the Training Program of Endoscopic Surgery of the Spanish Association of Surgery; President of the Expert Committee of the Royal College of Medicine of Seville and Chair of the working group: 'Surgery-Covid-AEC'.

Dr Morales Conde has a number of academic commitments including Visiting Professor of the School of Medicine at the Northeastern National University in Argentina, and of the Training Programe of Surgery in Malta. He is also Faculty of the IRCARD/EITS in Strasburg, France and Barretos, Brazil; Faculty of the Italian School of Abdominal Wall Surgery; Academic Fellow of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Seville and Lugo, Spain; Honorary member of the Society of Surgery of Cuba, Venezuela and Club Hernie in France. He is part of the scientific advisory board of the Swiss Association for Hernia Society.

He has been President of the European Congress of the European Hearnia Society; President of the Virtual Congress of the European Congress of the European Hernia Society and President of the European Congress of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons.

He has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals, indexed in PubMed: 146 and H-index: 34. He has also authored several clinical guidelines and consensus papers on different fields of surgery; he has written chapters in 33 national and 34 international books, as well as writing the books: 'Laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery'; 'Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair'; 'Guidelines of Abdominal Wall Surgery'; 'Guidelines of Innovation in Surgery' & 'Surgery-AEC'.

He is Honorary Member of the Andalusian Society of Surgery and was awarded as 'Illustrious Doctor' by the Royal College of Medicine of Seville in 2018.

Editor, British Journal of Hospital Medicine

Rebecca graduated from Cambridge University with an Honour’s degree in pharmacology in 1994. She started work as a subeditor on the British Journal of Hospital Medicine and the British Journal of Therapy and Rehabilitation. Rebecca has been Editor of the British Journal of Hospital Medicine (http://www.magonlinelibrary.com/toc/hmed/current), a monthly review journal for hospital doctors, since 1998.

She is also Editorial Director of MAG Digital Resources and Group Editorial Director for Mark Allen Group, which includes thirty different healthcare publications in its portfolio (http://www.markallengroup.com/ma-healthcare#publications).
