During this session there will be an overview of surgical site infections and the current evidence base to inform SSI prevention in clinical practice.
The key components of the talk will be:
Surgical site infections (SSI); their definition, diagnosis, frequency, causes and consequences
Evidence based practice - what it is and what it is not
The available evidence base that supports the current national and international clinical guidelines
Current evidence based interventions in SSI prevention
Exploration of the difficulties in producing and interpreting evidence in wound care
Antimicrobial Stewardship (18:30 - 19:00)
