Marine Civils at Seawork in association with CECA, present a series of bitesize online conferences discussing 'Decarbonisation - what is means for you and how it can help your business.' The series will look at several key topics impacting the marine civils industry, including HVO fuels and construction products.
The sessions will feature expert panels providing insight on the practical steps businesses can take towards decarbonisation compliance in the marine civils industry - looking at ways to deliver cost effective solutions and reduce harmful carbon emissions.
This second session in the series will focus on innovation in reducing the carbon footprint with construction products.

Jane Thornback - Moderator
Sustainability Policy Advisor, Construction Products Association (CPA)
Jane is a sustainability policy specialist with over 30 year’s experience within the construction manufacturing, natural resource and biodiversity sectors. She has been Sustainability Policy Advisor at the Construction Products Association since 2005. She manages the CPA’s Sustainability Committee and is responsible for monitoring and interpreting UK sustainability policies and contributing to the ongoing dialogue with government of how to deliver a sustainable built environment.
Jane liaises closely with government departments and their agencies as well as research bodies and the wider construction industry. She is Co-Secretariat with BEIS of the government industry Green Construction Board, and Co-Chairs the GCB’s Resources and Waste Working Group. Jane is also a member of the BSI Standards Committee B/558 on sustainability performance assessment of construction works including construction products, which is the Standards body for Environmental Product Declarations.
Jane has co-authored a variety of reports including A Guide to Understanding the Embodied Impacts of Construction Products, Water Efficiency – the Contribution of Construction Products, a Zero Avoidable Waste Routemap for Construction, a Knowledge Resource for Circular Economy in Construction, and a Olympics Learning Legacy Paper . She is the Editor of the CPA Briefing Papers series on Sustainability.
Peter Crosland
National Civil Engineering Director, Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA)
Peter is a Chartered Civil Engineer and a Chartered Water & Environmental Manager with over 35 years experience of working on a range of projects both in the UK and Internationally, working in Denmark, Greece and Bosnia.
He has advised on multi-disciplinary projects including education, infrastructure, buildings (commercial and housing), sewerage, water treatment and water supply and the investigation and remediation of brownfield sites. Peter has worked for a number of major public and private sector organisations at Divisional, Regional and Strategic Director level.
Peter is now the National Civil Engineering Director for the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) and advises on health, safety, environmental, water (utility, flood & marine), technical, contractual and commercial issues.
He is currently Chairman of the HSE CONIAC Tackling Ill Health Working Group, Vice-Chair of the Institution of Civil Engineers Health & Safety Expert Panel and a member of the Health in Construction Leadership Group.
Andrew Mullholland
Managing Director of Amcrete UK & Chair of the Low Carbon Concrete Group
Andrew is the Managing Director of AMCRETE UK, which provides concrete technology support and advice to many clients within the construction industry across the country. Andrew believes that it is better to engage with the supply chain before any project starts, rather than to respond to a call to resolve a concrete related issue. “Change is as much about our approach as it is about science and technology”.
Soon after leaving school, Andrew joined the British Army and served 11 years across 22 different countries. Moving into the construction industry, he quickly became a Project Manager working on a number of iconic and challenging schemes before establishing his consultancy. Andrew became Chair of the Low Carbon Concrete Group (LCCG), in early 2020 and has been working with a number of other experts to develop and publish the Low Carbon Concrete Routemap.
Andy Powell
Innovation Manager, Environment Agency
Andy is the Environment Agency’s Innovation Manager leading the Innovation Team within the Engineering & Technical Assurance in the Flood & Coastal Risk Management Directorate. He and the team focus on engineering innovation both in the delivery of the Environment Agency’s £5.2 billion capital programme, but also their wider asset management activities. Andy and his team work closely with Delivery Partners, supply chain and Environment Agency colleagues to initiate, coordinate and support innovative approaches and best practice.
Andy has worked for the EA in a range of technical roles both in Flood & Coastal Risk Management, but also in landfill engineering and contaminated land remediation early on in his career. The common thread throughout these roles is a focus on collaboration with others to drive forward innovative and more sustainable engineering solutions and initiatives.
Sarah Jolliffe
Carbon Reduction Lead, BAM Nuttall
In Jan 2021 I was promoted to Carbon Reduction Lead at BAM Nuttall – building on my previous roles of Energy Manager & Sustainability Data & Reporting Manager – but now carrying more responsibilities for the company’s carbon management system. I now manage a reporting analyst who supports the day to day data management aspects of carbon and waste accounting whilst I take care of the company’s net zero strategy, accreditations and external engagements.
In March 2016 I achieved the level 1 Energy Assessor qualification through the energy institute. At this time I became an Affiliate Member of the Energy Institute (AMEI).
I am a hard working individual with a multitude of skills in many areas of construction and have been accredited with several awards. My practical knowledge combined with my industry and academic experience gained over the past 14+ years makes me a strong asset to any business and I love a challenge.
Elaine Toogood
Head of Architecture, The Concrete Centre
Elaine is an architect with expertise in concrete and sustainability and is joint editor of Concrete Quarterly magazine. She is also Chair of RIBA SE London. Elaine provides technical advice for architects and designers regarding specification and use of concrete in construction and is holds particular expertise in visual concrete, flood resilience and sustainable design. Elaine also runs in house CPD's, workshops, and is an avid events speaker.
