On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, NSAC's Executive Director, Heidi Sanborn, testified to the California State Senate Environmental Quality Committee on EPR highlighting that a circular economy starts by reducing waste and pollution at the source which requires setting source reduction goals and clear metrics.

2025 Legislation

Will require manufacturers of emergency distress flares to fund and operate a convenient collection system to manage expired or unwanted flares, shifting the costs of managing this product from our cities and counties – and ultimately local ratepayers – to the manufacturers/users.

SB 501 Senator Ben Allen Household Hazardous Waste Producer Responsibility Act 2025.png

Will establish Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), which will require the producers to fund and operate a convenient collection system for covered products.
