Antonio Conte’s side is currently fourth in the table, three points behind AC Milan after their derby defeat two weeks ago. Inter recovered from that loss with a 2-0 win over Genoa and an unbeaten start to their Champions League campaign, albeit with two draws against Borussia Monchengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Parma, meanwhile, is struggling near the bottom of the table, having won just one of their opening five games while losing three. But they have a pretty decent record when going up against Inter at the San Siro.
In their last four meetings between these two sides at the San Siro, Parma have won one and drawn three, having previously lost seven in a row. They have also won four of the last 11 meetings between these two, with three draws and four Inter wins.
So, who comes out on top this weekend?
Inter Milan (vs Shakhtar Donetsk): Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Bastoni, De Vrij; Hakimi, Barella, Vidal, Brozovic, Young; Lukaku*, Martinez.
Parma (vs Spezia): Sepe; Grassi, Iacoponi, Gagliolo, Pezzella; Kurtic, Brugman, Hernani; Kucka; Cornelius, Gervinho.
Inter look set to be without Milan Skriniar again but will be hopeful he can return to face Real Madrid next week, in what will be another boost following their absence-filled time. Romelu Lukaku has joined him on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury, in a big blow for Conte.
Parma are still without the likes of Roberto Inglese, Juan Brunetta, Matteo Scozzarella, Mattia Sprocati, Jacopo Dezi and Bruno Alves.
Players to watch:
Inter Milan: With Romelu Lukaku ruled out through injury, Inter’s goalscoring responsibility looks set to fall on Lautaro Martinez. And it’s a challenge he is like to step and take. The Argentinian has played sideshow to Lukaku’s main attraction this season but he has still managed to score three goals and record one assist in Serie A so far. All four of his goal involvements came in the opening three games of the season, with two blanks in his past two matches. But when Inter needs him most, expect Martinez to answer their calls.
Parma: Gervinho is yet to score this season, having a quiet start to the campaign despite leading the line for Parma. But if there is anyone the Ivorian would fancy himself to score against, it could be Inter. The former Arsenal forward found the net in both of Parma’s games against Inter last season, accounting for 28.6% of his total Serie A tally (or two out of seven). And Gervinho will be looking to score in three consecutive Serie A appearances against Inter, something he has only previously achieved vs Udinese. But the question is, can he do it?
