“Designing Out Inequality” will be the debut event for the Buchanan Arts District as a prototype for equitable development. At some point in history, inequality was “designed into” the fabric of our city, but by learning this history and listening to community members we hope to reverse this trend. We have brought together a diverse group of community partners for this three part event. We’ll start with a virtual tour down Buchanan Street, meeting business owners and community members along the way. This will lead us into a panel that will discuss our first project; a new form of development that benefits the existing community and strives to work within the urban fabric, all while looking toward the future. The event will conclude with a virtual preview of an art show that will exhibit the local artist and makers of Buchanan Street.
