NAPC's Commission Assistance & Mentoring Program (CAMP) Legal Trainers will share their thoughts on current and developing legal issues that impact historic preservation commissions. The format of this session is designed to engage participants in sharing legal issues faced by their commissions and discussing approaches that can be used to address these challenges. Examples of topics may include economic hardship and affordability issues, blight and eminent domain, receivership, affirmative maintenance and demolition by neglect, owner consent provisions, religious liberty issues, impartiality of decision makers, preservation procedures and due process, complying with sunshine laws, decision making around resilience projects, and potential de-designation of properties at risk for climate change.
