One of the roles of local preservation commissions is to designate local properties and historic districts but many wonder what is the difference between local, state and national designation. This two-part webinar will discuss the different types of designation and how they work together. In the first seminar learn more about the National Register of Historic Places, its criteria and process as well as the role that local commissions can have in the listing. Discover the variety of resource types that can be listed and get a better understanding of what is a “Period of Significance”. A follow-up webinar in early 2024 will delve deeper into local designation, research tools and outreach to underrepresented communities.
