The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) plans to revert the Treasure Lake Job Corps Center, located in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, to a more natural state, consistent with the agency's mission. In 2022, after commissioning an historic building survey, USFWS determined the Treasure Lake Job Corps Center was eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. USFWS is in the process of mitigating the adverse effects of demolition to this property. The current presentation will discuss the history of the Job Corps program and the Treasure Lake Job Corps Center as well as the history of this project and ongoing mitigation efforts.
