pv magazine Webinar | Reasons for repowering

About This Webinar

Initiative partner: SMA

In Europe alone, there is estimated to be more than 40 GW of PV capacity installed in projects larger than 100 kW that are more than five years old. Thanks to cost declines, technology improvement, availability of spare parts, and various other factors, replacing the modules, inverters and other components of these PV systems with new ones is an increasingly attractive strategy.

When done correctly, repowering a PV plant promises additional energy yield, optimized operations and other advantages that can add up to increased returns from the project. There are risks, however, and a number of technical, commercial and legal factors that need to be taken into account for repowering to be implemented successfully.

German inverter manufacturer SMA has developed a set of services specifically to address the repowering market. Through this, they can help asset owners to assess the opportunity and implications for their project, and to develop a comprehensive business model for repowering.

In this pv magazine Webinar, Thorsten Höfer, Product Manager for Repowering, and Behnam Rassekh Afshar, Key Account Manager at SMA Solar Technology, take us through the repowering process, from initial analysis of the feasibility and potential, through to implementation and operational support after the repowering is completed. Viewers will learn why repowering is about much more than simply replacing system components, and the other factors that are vital to consider here, and we’ll be treated to several real-world examples of projects where SMA has successfully implemented a repowering strategy.
