Ultraviolet induced degradation (UVID) is a major concern for PV manufacturers, and indeed anyone invested in durable module design. In this pv magazine Webinar, we will explore how testing has revealed weaknesses to UV in some TOPCon modules, and how manufacturers are already responding with more resilient designs, enhanced quality control, and other measures.
According to RETC, for newer module technologies such as tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon), UVID presents headaches, particularly in terms of quality and long-term durability. Some modules have been shown to lose performance in the field thanks to UV exposure. Designing UV resilience into modules from the start is emerging as a priority for the PV industry, as is ensuring that these weaknesses show up in testing.
In this pv magazine Webinar, we will address these issues, taking Trinasolar’s Vertex N 625W module as a case study. This TOPCon module was one of only two that successfully passed the strict UVID testing sequence as part of RETC testing center’s round of quality tests. RETC is a US-based company that devised UVID testing criteria in response to industry concerns.
We will hear from Trinasolar’s product manager Ling Zhuang , about the work that went into ensuring the module in question is fully UV resilient. She will use performance data from the Vertex N 625W module’s testing process to show how and why its design performed so well during testing.
RETC CEO Cherif Kedir will also join, to explain the process behind the company’s UVID testing. He will also talk through the latest UV resilience performance-related innovations and why it is necessary for manufacturers to keep up to date with these developments.
pv magazine Webinar content:
• Introduction to 210+N Vertex product family and i-TOPCon technology
• Background on UV degradation for n-type modules
• Testing theory, method and standards
• Performance of Trina’s i-TOPCon module in UVID extended testing
