SAME Environmental COI Webinar: PFAS IGE - Analytical Methods Update: Practical Solutions to Remedial Challenges

About This Webinar

To date, available laboratory analytical approaches include what are known as “target” and “non-target” analyses. While targeted analyses are limited to a fixed set of parameters, non-target analyses provide an insight into the total amount of potential PFAS present. Each of these analytical approaches offer a distinct advantage for environmental practitioners. At the same time, the limitations of each need to be considered when assessing their utility in different situations.

This webinar will provide a high-level introduction of the two analytical approaches and what is meant by target and non-target analyses, and show how results can differ between the methods, and highlight the advantages and limitations of each method.
The presenters will provide real-world examples of challenges faced by environmental practitioners dealing with PFAS impacts in the environment and describe specific situations where it is advantageous to use one technique over the other, or to use both as complimentary methods.

Learning Objectives:
• Define key challenges faced by environmental practitioners invested in addressing PFAS in the environment
• Explain the differences between PFAS results obtained by LC/MS/MS, the total oxidizable precursors (TOPs) assay and adsorbable organic fluorine (AOF)
• Describe the advantages and limitations of each analytical approach for measuring PFAS and addressing the key challenges
• Highlight when it is advantageous to use one technique over the other, or as complimentary methods

Who should attend:
• Those interested in PFAS measurement for compliance testing, site assessment and remediation; treatment and AFFF characterization.
• Consultants/Contractors working on PFAS projects.
• Base personnel from Civil Engineer’s Office, Environmental Flight, Navy, or USACE Resident Officer, or other.
