    Anahid Brakke
    President & CEO
    Anahid Brakke joined the San Diego Hunger Coalition in January 2015. During her short tenure, she has tripled the organization’s budget, doubled its staff and recruited ten new board members and two new advisory board members. Additionally, the Hunger Coalition has launched its School Meals Program, Hunger Free San Diego initiative, and has assumed facilitation of the Hunger Advocacy Network and Summer Meals Task Force.

    Named by San Diego community leaders as an “emerging leader to watch in 2015,” Anahid brings more than a decade of experience in San Diego’s philanthropic sector and is a leading voice in the community on hunger and poverty. Her areas of focus have included hunger and the food system, senior issues, preventive healthcare and access to care, social equity, workforce development and family asset building.

    Jaqueline Hess
    CalFresh Program Manager
    Jaqueline joined the San Diego Hunger Coalition in April 2019. In her work as CalFresh Program Manager, she supports efforts to eliminate barriers and increase access to CalFresh benefits in San Diego County, facilitates CalFresh Task Force meetings, and provides training and technical assistance to partner agencies.

    Jaqueline has a background in hunger and poverty relief and is dedicated to serving her community. Her interest in food security began in college while studying food politics and quickly became her passion. Following graduation, she served one year of national service as an AmeriCorps VISTA with Hunger Free America as the CalFresh Capacity Coordinator working to increase access to healthy food for San Diegans.

    Amanda Schultz Brochu
    Vice President of Programs & Chief Programs Officer
    Amanda Schultz Brochu, MPH, leads the San Diego Hunger Coalition’s programs, guiding the work to end hunger in San Diego County. She is the Hunger Coalition’s staff lead for Hunger Free San Diego, stewarding the amazing collaborative work being done by San Diego’s hunger relief leaders. With a background in public health and capacity building, Amanda develops innovative partnerships to connect with San Diego’s most hard to reach food insecure populations. In her work as Senior Director of Programs, Amanda oversees the CalFresh Outreach Program, Hunger Free Kids, Policy and Advocacy, and the Hunger Free San Diego initiative. Amanda also represents the Hunger Coalition and its partners at the state level as a part of the Alliance to Transform CalFresh, serving as a conduit between community organizations and state level decision makers shaping CalFresh program policy.

    Amanda Mascia
    Hunger Free Kids Manager
    Amanda’s role is to providing management support to the HFK Task Force and HFK COVID Response Team, supporting San Diego County districts and community based organizations to implement SFSP/SSO and CACFP. Amanda comes to San Diego Hunger Coalition with extensive communications, advocacy and nutrition services experience, particularly in North County San Diego. While she has worked on Madison Avenue and WallStreet, Amanda is most known for creating The Good Food Factory -a healthy cooking show for kids and their families. Over the last decade Amanda has worked with countless San Diego youth teaching them in cooking classes, cooking camps and in school events. Amanda recently helped launch and oversee a teaching kitchen and after school meal program in Oceanside before she decided to put all of her experiences to use and joined the Hunger Coalition. Amanda is a tireless and joyful advocate for equity, social justice, and really good food for all. She resides in North County with her husband, two black labs and a cat named Meatball.
