About This Series

For three weeks in the month of February, a webinar will be held spotlighting one or two Black-led organizations doing work in treatment areas that affect Black Americans at a substantial rate. In these webinars, we will discuss specific challenges that Black individuals may have when getting care or attempting to get care, and explore how we can empower patients of all backgrounds to be better self-advocates. We’ll talk about the gaps in the healthcare system as it relates to race and access, and give space to the leaders to share how they hope to change the narrative through the work they’re doing with their organization.

Executive Director, Type Zero Foundation

Type Zero Foundation is a non-profit organization whose aim is to create a space where those who are affected by diabetes, directly or indirectly, are able to come together in mutual empathy and every-day support. Type Zero introduces fitness and wellness directly in to the mission by centering activities and community outreach around events, programs, and meets-ups that give persons of all ages and fitness levels an opportunity to let loose and get moving!

Executive Director, Achieve Your Champion

Achieve Your Champion is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of Childhood Obesity, Type 1, and Type 2 Diabetes. They do this by creating programming that promotes mental health and overall wellness, and facilitates a path for children to have a healthy and active future. Through focusing on children’s lives as a whole, kids who work with Achieve Your Champion leave not only with a healthier outlook on life, but also with the qualities of a leader and a strong character.
