Antoinette O'Neill
Chief Information Officer for Risk and Finance, Barclays
Antoinette O’Neill is the Chief Information Officer for Risk and Finance as well as Group Functions Technology and is a member of the Chief Operating Office (COO) Shared Services leadership team. Her team is approximately 4,500 strong and works hand in hand with the COO, as well as partners in Risk, Finance, Treasury, HR, Legal and Compliance to provide integrated technology services. Her team is global, with strategic locations in New York, London, Whippany, Prague, Northampton, Glasgow and Pune.
Antoinette joined Barclays from Credit Suisse, where she had worked for 20+ years across London and New York, starting out as a hands on developer, building out trading and risk systems, before going on to work across multiple asset classes and functional domains, in both a horizontal, as well as a vertical capacity. Since joining Barclays in 2019 Antoinette has leveraged this experience and been at the forefront of driving strategic technology change and innovation across the bank.
Having studied Computer Science and Math at school, followed by a career dominated by technology, Antoinette views herself, first and foremost, as a technologist and with the growth of Cloud, Machine Learning and DevOps combined with the power of data, strongly believes that this is one of, if not the most, exciting times to be working in this space. Antoinette is passionate about people and relationships and finds building deep relationships with key stakeholders, growing and mentoring talent, as well as building effective teams, hugely rewarding .
Antoinette lives in New York with her family, enjoys tennis, hiking and getting out on the Long Island Sound in the Summer. She also loves to travel, often using her extended family, who are spread across the globe, as the perfect excuse to visit countries far and wide.
Interesting fact: Growing up in Ireland as a teenager, the film “Top Gun” inspired Antoinette and she really wanted to become a fighter pilot. Unfortunately, this early career choice was somewhat hindered by the discovery that she had to be a US Citizen to join the US Air Force!
