I am a PhD candidate and pre-doctoral lecturer at the University of Washington Information School. My research is in knowledge organization, subject indexing, and social tagging. I am particularly interested in comparing and combining the subject indexing approaches of different types of indexers, including: professional indexers, domain and folk experts, social and casual indexers, and machine indexers. I teach courses at UW in library science, data science, and scientific and technical writing. Before returning to academia, I wrote software documentation and led technical writing teams at IBM and Google.
