Steve Allen
Chief Operating Officer for Corporate Banking, Barclays
Steve was appointed as Chief Operating Officer for Corporate Banking in August 2018, and is responsible for the development and implementation of the Corporate Banking COO strategy, including accountability for the end-to-end delivery of COO services (Operations &Technology). Steve is the Accountable Executive for four Transaction Cycles; Wholesale Lending, Trade & Working Capital, Global Payments and Corporate Digital Banking.
Prior to that, from April 2014, Steve led Operations for the Corporate Bank, approximately 4,200 colleagues across 12 locations in Asia, Europe and the US. His remit extended in Q4 2016 to include Investment Banking Operations.
Steve is a member of the BI COO and Corporate Banking leadership teams, the Corporate Bank Executive Forum and the Crisis Leadership Team and Controls Committee and is is responsible for three of Barclays primary India partner organisations. He is also the Accountable Executive for the end to end, BX Provided, Cheque Imaging service including the vendor relationships. In addition to this, he is responsible for three of Barclays primary India partner organisations.
Prior to joining Barclays in 2006, Steve spent 17 years at Citigroup in a range of operational leadership and strategic change roles in the Global Transactions Services business based in the UK, Ireland, the US and India.
Steve represents Barclays at both client and industry events including SIBOS, the world’s premier financial services event for the global financial community, providing strategic insights and views on industry issues and developments in the transaction banking business.
Since 2010 Steve has represented Barclays as a Board Director of the UK Payments Council and as a member of the Bank of England’s Senior Banking Operations Group. He is currently a Board Member of the Payments sub-committee of UK Finance, the UK’s Industry trade body, and acts as the shareholder representative for Barclays with the Cheque and Credit Clearing Company. He is also a founder member of the Thompson Reuters Senior Advisory Council for Onboarding and KYC.
Steve is an ambassador for Julia’s House, Dorset’s only hospice for families with children who have life limiting conditions and has helped them raise more than £3m to help provide respite care for families in the Dorset and Wiltshire regions.
