About This Series

Gardens Illustrated’s online masterclass series continues this year with three expert and exciting speakers, who each join us for an hour-long lecture on a topic of their choice.

This is your chance to hear from some of horticulture’s most dynamic talent and to find out about their leading approaches to planting choices, seasonality, sustainability, gardening and health, and much more.

The talks are available on-demand to be viewed up to ten times as a recording; so you can make notes in your own time, go back and listen again.

The 2024 series features garden designer Stefano Marinaz, rose expert Jenny 'Niff' Barnes and world-renowned landscape designer Tom Stuart-Smith. Below you’ll find more details about each of our speakers and how to watch the masterclasses.

    Stephanie Mahon
    Editor of Gardens Illustrated
    Stephanie Mahon is the Editor of Gardens Illustrated and a writer on garden and landscape design. Twice winner of the Garden Media Guild Journalist of the Year Award, she has also written a book called Wild Gardens, published by HarperCollins.

    Stefano Marinaz
    Garden Designer
    The seeds for Stefano Marinaz's future were planted 70 years ago in northern Italy when his grandfather opened a plant nursery and a shop in Trieste. As a child, Stefano trailed behind his grandfather in the greenhouses, developing a profound love and understanding of plants from an early age.

    After earning a degree in Agronomy in Italy, Stefano pursued an MA in Landscape Architecture at the University of Greenwich in London.

    In 2012, Stefano Marinaz realised his dream by founding Stefano Marinaz Landscape Architecture. Over the past decade, the studio has expanded to include offices in both London, UK, and Utrecht, NL, earning a reputation for its expertise in naturalistic planting and innovative design.
