About this series

Contact Lens Week is a series of interactive webinars each focussing on a key topic facing the contact lens sector. Optician will host a daily webinar at 6pm throughout the week starting Monday 8th February. There will be two sessions each evening. During these sessions viewers can pose live questions some of which will be posed to our key opinion leaders live on air after the presentation.
All sessions will be recorded so if you are unable to watch live you will be able to catch up at a later date when convenient.

Meet The Presenters

Lyndon Jones

Professor, Centre for Ocular Research & Education

Lyndon Jones is a Professor at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, Distinguished University Professor and Director of the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) at the University of Waterloo. His research interests primarily focus on the interaction of novel and existing contact lens materials with the ocular environment, dry eye and the development of novel materials for ocular drug delivery. He has authored over 450 refereed and professional papers, one text-book and given over 1000 invited lectures at conferences worldwide, in over 40 countries.
Keith Tempany

Past President at BCLA; Chair BCLA Myopia Management

Keith opened a contact lens only practice in 2002, specialising in irregular cornea, RGP’s, multifocals and Orthokeratology. Shortlisted for 7 national awards, winning 3, CL Practitioner of the Year 2010 & 2014. Keith has presented on contact lenses and dry eye both nationally and internationally. Voted onto the BCLA council in 2009 he became President in 2017 & is currently Chair of the Myopia Management Committee.
Indie Grewel

Specialist Optometrist & Contact Lens Practitioner, Leightons Opticians, St Albans

Indie is a qualified Dispensing Optician and Optometrist with 30 years experience within the Optical Industry. Shortly after qualifying as an Optometrist he joined Visioncare Research as a Research Optometrist. He opened his own Leightons Franchise in St Albans in 2001, as well as participating in contact lens clinical trials, he has a special interest in Myopia Management and Multifocal contact lens fitting.

Indie’s passion for contact lenses has seen him work with major contact lens manufacturers and as a key opinion leader he has presented both in the UK and internationally.

Indie has recently been elected President of the BCLA.
Phil Thompson

Professional Services Lead, SynergEyes Hybrid Contact Lenses

With over 37 years of experience in the optical industry, Phil has worked on various projects for Positive Impact over the last 8 years and now leads the Professional Services for the SynergEyes Hybrid Contact Lenses as well as being involved in Punctal Occlusion, Inflammadry and PI’s Dry Eye Zone Hydramed range of drops and supplements. Since February 2019, Positive Impact was selected as the supplier of NaturalVue Multifocal 1 Day disposable lenses and Phil is involved in direct one to one training on fitting this product.

In the past he has managed the general running of a small independent 6 practice optical group, along with coaching the branch teams for greater performance in all aspects of their optical business. He worked with a leading UK optical chain as a regional manager and in 2010 completed a Nottingham University Business School Management Development Programme. He has successfully implemented specialist contact lens services, such as OrthoK and complex RGP fitting into Bateman’s Opticians (now part of the VE group). In 2007 he became a licensed trainer for Krauthammer; a globally renowned coaching, consulting and training company. He also sees patients and has delivered in-practice CET sessions on behalf of Positive Impact
Nick Atkins

Director of Marketing and Professional Services, Positive Impact (PI)

Nick Atkins is a business owner and contact lens optician with over 40 year’s experience in the optical business (he’s keen to point out that he started very young!). He has worked on both sides of the optical fence, initially in practice and later moving to the industry side with Bausch & Lomb where he spent 10 years in professional services and marketing roles.

Since B&L Nick provided consultancy services to both sides of the business as well as establishing a number of businesses including Proven Track Record – the force behind the business symposium Independents Day. In 2008 he co-founded Positive Impact (PI) and is currently the company’s Director of Marketing and Professional Services. PI is an optical sales and marketing business that distributes a range of products including contact lenses and dry eye diagnostics and treatments.

Nick has lectured extensively on clinical and business related subjects throughout the Europe, the UK and Ireland. He has co-authored and written numerous clinical papers and articles and coordinated studies including the landmark EASE (Enhancing the Approach to Selecting Eyewear) study, examining the effect of using contact lenses to help with choosing glasses.

A former ABDO board director, Nick is also a Past President and an inaugural Fellow of the BCLA.

Myopia control: The options for managing myopia and the results of the latest research

This webinar will provide a round up of the research around myopia management. The presentation/interview will explore which patients are suitable and the potential for slowing myopia. The session will also explore myopia management options and suitable patients.

This should include peripheral focus, extended depth of focus and OrthoK lenses. The outcomes achieved from the different methodologies will also be discussed along with patient communication.

Developments in soft contact lenses have seen improved correction among astigmatic soft contact lens wearers.
