World Pneumonia Day

Pneumonia is the single largest infectious cause of death in children worldwide, but it also causes mild to life-threatening illness in people of all ages. (1)

How can you help improve the use of antibiotics in severe pneumonia infections?

International guidelines for the treatment of hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia (HAP/VAP) patients recommend broad-spectrum empiric antimicrobial therapy in high-risk patients. (2)

An earlier and broader identification of causative pathogens has the potential to reduce unnecessary antimicrobial exposure in HAP and VAP patients. In the presentations below, two experienced ICU physicians lay out how they use the BioFire Pneumonia plus panel to optimize antimicrobial therapy in their patients.
